Flexion Distraction Technique

What is Leander Flexion Distraction?

The Leander Flexion/Distraction and Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) assisted adjusting uses table motion to relieve muscle spasm and low back pain. Research reveals greater patient acceptance when motion traction is introduced simultaneously with the manipulative force during subluxation correction.

How Does the Leander Technique Help to Manage Disc Injury?

The gentle, pumping rhythm of the flexion/distraction creates a negative pressure within the disc space, causing a vacuum effect. Because of this negative pressure, disc material that has protruded, or herniated, is pulled back within the normal confines of the disc, which allows healing to occur.

This technique can help move the disc away from the nerve, which reduces inflammation of the nerve root, and eventually any associated pain, pins and needles, numbness, or weakness of the leg.

This technique has been proved to help:

- Lumbar disc pain(herniation/protrusion/prolapse)

- Low back pain

- Sciatica

- Arthritis/spinal degeneration

- General lower back stiffness

- Sprain/strain

- Sacroiliac syndrome

- Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal)

- Ankylosing spondylitis

- Post surgical back pain
